Owner and founder of Bolga-Ayia, Sia Yambire, was born in the Fara-Fara culture, near the famous Bolgatanga basket weavers in Northern Ghana. He began working as a young man with American and European basket buyers in the region leading him to start his own business in 1995 .
Sia has traveled between West Africa and the Bay Area for over 25 years, bringing his heirloom quality, sustainably sourced, hand woven baskets to local Farmers Market's and retailers.
In addition to creating micro loans and reliable relationships with the weavers, Sia has also facilitated shipping medical supplies, dug wells, hosted school programs, bicycle clubs, sewing machine supplies and grown some mango trees over the years.
Sia is at home in both places with a rich legacy of tradition, culture and family.
He now shares his time between Northern California with his family, with annual trips to Ghana.
Sia's fresh, innovative, and beautifully made baskets last for decades and are cherished by families around the world!
