About Us

Sia Yambire, the owner and founder of Bolga-Ayia, was born into the Fra-Fra culture near the renowned Bolgatanga basket weavers in northern Ghana. As a young man, he began working with American and European buyers of Bolga Ayia baskets, which inspired him to launch his own business in 1995.

While establishing and nurturing reliable business relationships with the weavers, Sia also sought ways to give back to his Indigenous communities. Over the years, his projects have included personally funding micro-loans, providing medical supplies to his hometown clinic, digging a community well for clean and accessible water, facilitating a cultural exchange school program, sourcing bicycles for the local community, and providing sewing machines for aspiring tailors. Additionally, he cultivated lovely mango trees at his home base in Bolgatanga.

Since Sia's unexpected passing in late 2024, his family has united both in Africa and Northern California to honor his legacy. They are committed to upholding the high standards of quality, sustainability, and community engagement that Sia exemplified. Under their stewardship, Bolga-Ayia continues to shine as a symbol of cultural exchange, social responsibility, and exceptional craftsmanship in handcrafted home decor.

Whether you are a long-time collector or are just discovering the beauty of Bolga-Ayia baskets, we invite you to explore our latest collection. It features an array of vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and timeless designs that will enhance any space. Join us in celebrating Sia's lasting legacy and the rich Ghanaian culture of the Fra-Fra people.
